Scooter Tracks - we've seen over recent years the increase in popularity of Scooters. Scooters regularly use our BMX tracks, mainly on the Tarmac surfaced areas. Scooters are bad news for the dust surface commonly used on our BMX tracks as the narrow wheels break up the compacted dust and the scooters ground out over the bumps damaging them.
Scooters look like they are here to stay so we proposeTarmac surfaced tracks designed specifically for Scooters. Tarmac is much cheaper than Concrete and Metal (materials commonly used in Skateparks), allows for more flexible design and is still usable during wet weather. Full Scooter track website coming soon. In the meantime, if you are interested in a Scooter track please contact us
BMX Track Construction. So if you need a track BMX, 4X, DH , XC or just a tiny Pump Track get in touch. No job too big or too small, we can build to any budget.
The design and construction team is lead by Jason Carpenter, a lifetime cyclist with many years experience in BMX (all disciplines) and MTB XC, DH and 4X. Jasons daughter, Manon Carpenter is also a liftime BMX and MTB rider who is current Downhill MTB Junior World Champion (2011). Manon is used for consultancy and testing of all designs and builds. James Shaunghnessy who is a graduated mechanical engineer who has chosen to use his skills to form BMX tracks with me.
We aim to build BMX tracks to suit people from 4 years old to +50 years old (with basic fundamental skills obviously) male and female alike, each track should suit novices through to experts. The beauty of BMX is that a group of people spanning all abilities, both sexes and of all ages can get together and enjoy a day (or an hour) of sport together.
BMX Track Construction can offer a full design (CAD) and build service for any site. We can offer advice on any cycling facility.

Who are we?
Jason Carpenter operates Dragon Downhill and WWW.BMXTRACKCONSTRUCTION.CO.UK as a sole trader. I have been riding BMX since the first boom in the 80's and MTB's since I first came across them in the early 90's. Dragon Downhill started in 1998 and voluntary and commercial track building started immediately
Manon Carpenter tests all our products, she is 19 in 2012, regularly rides and races BMX as part of her training for Downhill MTB Racing. Manon is currently ranked 6th Elite Female in the UCI DHi Elite female rankings. WWW.MANONCARPENTER.COM
When building race tracks we invite top UK riders to test our products to ensure they work as intended.
We specialise in Bespoke BMX track designs to fit each venue in the best possible way. Our tracks do not flood and are built to engineering standards that will last 20 years without mudding up. We use stone sub bases to prevent mud and stone dust to surface our tracks.
To reduce rainwater erosion and subsequent maintenance for fledgling clubs we recommend Bitmac surfaced berms and start hills. In public environments (public parks etc) we will NOT build dirt or stone bermed corners as they will become unusable within the first 12 months of operation.
We are also able to offer maintenance packages for our builds. All the tracks we build are designed to be interesting and challenging for experts whilst still being fun and PROGRESSIVE for beginners.
We only offer a full Design and Build service.
What is a BMX Track? There are a number of styles of BMX track you could choose
BMX 'Pump' or Play Tracks home

These are non racing tracks, typically smaller and narrower than a BMX race track, designed for smaller areas and budgets.
All our BMX pump tracks are designed along the lines of BMX race track layouts as this layout encourages SINGLE DIRECTION riding and is ROSPA compliant and recognised as a BMX track br British Cycling therefore allowing these tracks to be installed in public places and ROSPA certified.
We can build such 'Pump' tracks to budgets from £15k to £60k depending on size and location
Examples - Rhiwfawr, Bryn Bach, Longwell Green, Ponciau Banks
Others we have built: Seascale, Bishops Tachbrook, St Mellons, Crynant, Carmarthen, Cicely Haughton Primary School, Evolution Skatepark, Stirchley BMX track Telford, Aldesley High School, Pembroke Dock, Groby, Maindy, Dunvant Swansea, Bedlington, ABC Park Cardiff,
BEWARE: There is a current trend for 'Pump' Tracks to be multi line and multi directional, this is NOT recommended for public places and is EXTREMELY DANGEROUS during peak play periods (head on collisions etc). ROSPA will fail any multi direction and multi line tracks rendering them uninsurable as play items for Councils

WM layout BMX track, more creative
layout but still ROSPA compliant

Race Tracks home

Race Tracks need BMX Start Gates and need to be wider to permit safe multi rider racing, both factors increase costs over pump tracks. However it is easier to develop a successful BMX club around a race track as the Gate Practise and race events focus activities to specific times. Clubs also promote coaching and 'safe' periods when younger riders can be introduced to the sport under controlled conditions. The Start gates can be manual or electro/pneumatic controlled, the later is more expensive, but required for British Cycling sanctioned races.
We recommend the installation of BMX 'Safety Gates' as these avoid the chance of entrapment as they drop. You can see our BMX Safety Gates in action on the links below for Maindy, Bryn Bach Park and Derby. We currently recommend the intallation of Bensink safety gates as these are the only BMX gate to carry the CE safety mark. It is ILLEGAL to install a machine in the EU without it carrying the CE mark, and in our opinion a BMX start gate is a machine,
UCI and British cycling sanctioned BMX races are 8 man races
4 man Track - Example - Maindy
Designed for places where there is either not enough room for an 8 man track or too small a budget, You can still train for BMX racing on these tracks but will only be able to hold local races on them.
Cost - £45k to £60k
Regional Standard - 8 man racing - Example - Market Deeping , Aldersely High School, The Hub Barnard Castle
Comply to the Minimum standards set down by British Cycling for Regional BMX races, see BMX rule book, width, length, specification etc
Cost - £60k to £120k
National Standard - 8 man racing - Examples - Bryn Bach, Derby
Complies to the minimum standards set down by British Cycling for National BMX races, see BC BMX rule book for details, width, length, specification etc
Cost - £100k to £900k
Costs with all these tracks vary for many reasons. Costs very with area, distance from quarries, availability of material, ground conditions, etc etc.
It is possible to add (or remove) facilities to any of these tracks to improve and develop the facility, such Items are:
Start hill
railings
Pens to line the riders up for races
Tarmac access paths
Commentary position
Covered Commentary position
Covered Start Hill
Floodlights
Degree of landscaping
Containers and/or modular buildings
Concrete Start hill with built in storage
