Directions to Dragon Downhill Venues plus a bit of info about accomodation
All current Dragon DH tracks are on Forestry Commision land. F.C. has asked us to tell you that these tracks (with the exception of Cwmcarn) and not open outside of properly organised events. The tracks are not official tracks and there is no first aid or rescue cover there outside of events. F.C. have asked us to provide more regular practice days in order for people to use these tracks under controlled conditions.
Use of motorised vehicles in F.C. land is illegal. Please do not take motorised vehicles into the forests. This includes using cars, vans and motorcycles for the purpose of providing riders with lifts to the top of the tracks. People breaking this rule are risking the future of these venues for the sport of Downhill MTB.
Although the forests of South Wales seem to be a free for all for offroad motorcyles, this activity is illegal and is a serious social problem. Steps involving F.C., The Welsh Office and South Wales Police are being taken against illegal offroad motorbiking.
Any link between illegal offroad motorcycle activity and Downhill MTB jeapordises the future of the sport.
If this seems silly to you, imagine what it would be like up at say Mtn Ash on a nice weekend if everyone with a transit van (or similar) turned up and started shuttling the forest road. It would be carnage. The simple F.C. response would be to prevent future events going ahead and to destroy the track I have built there. This happened previously at Rheola, we have only just got it back due to a change of circumstance with the land management there. It could easily happen again. So please help us out with this.
NEW - 4/7/2006 - FROM NOW ON ANYONE CAUGHT IN F.C. LAND USING ANY UNAUTORISED MOTORISED TRANSPORT FOR THE PURPOSE OF DH UPLIFT AT DRAGON DH TRACKS WILL BE BANNED FROM ANY EVENTS RUN BY DRAGON DH FOR A PERIOD OF 18 MONTHS OR FACE A £500 FINE. ANY FINES IMPOSED WILL BE DISTRIBUTED TO RECENT MARSHALS AT DRAGON DH EVENTS.
